With a laid-back location at the Laurelhurst Park skatepark, candid moments, and a hint of skate culture, it’s a great example of how family photos can be cool and meaningful.
Why a Skatepark?
A skatepark might not be the first place that comes to mind for family portraits—but hear me out! It’s full of textures, curves, and open space for movement, which is perfect for kids (and adults) who love to be active. This family wanted to include their love for skateboarding in their photos, and the result was a session that felt authentic, stylish, and full of life. This little gal is going to love these photos when she is older and she can look back and remember how awesome her parents were when she was a baby. That’s always one of my goals when I do shoots- making sure the photos showcase relationships and that the kids will be able to look back on them on day and really see what I saw.
What Made This Session Special
From the moment I saw their baby’s leopard sneakers and tiny overalls, I knew we were going to have the best time. Mom and dad kept things casual in soft neutrals and autumn tones—perfect for Portland’s moody greenery. We started with some “baby’s first skateboard” shots and then moved into relaxed family hugs, laughter, and board-holding moments that showed off their personality and connection. This little girl will always remember her dads love of skateboarding and maybe one day she will grow up to love it too and these pictures will be forever treasured.
